Send alerts to chat

Post monitors, incidents, reports and expiring certificates to Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat, Discord or Telegram.

2 min readUpdated

A chat connection posts to one channel, space or group. Each message has a title, a line or two, the key facts (status, severity, what’s affected) and a button to open it in bynh. Every message carries a status word, such as Resolved, Critical or Notice, so it never relies on colour alone.

Chat can take every event. New connections start with all of them; turn off what your channel doesn’t need under What should we send?. To post to more than one channel, add another connection.

Slack

  1. Step 1: Add to Slack

In Settings › Integrations, open Slack and choose Add to Slack. Slack asks you to pick a channel and allow bynh to post to it. bynh only asks for permission to post to that channel through an incoming webhook (incoming-webhook); it doesn’t read your messages and keeps no Slack token.

  2. Step 2: Or paste a webhook

Choose Paste a webhook URL instead. In Slack, create an app for your workspace, turn on Incoming Webhooks, add a webhook to the channel and paste the URL. It starts with https://hooks.slack.com/services/.

To stop bynh posting, disconnect it in bynh and remove the app in Slack. bynh links you to the app’s page in Slack when you disconnect.

Microsoft Teams

  1. Step 1: Create a workflow

In Teams, open the channel, then ••• › Workflows, and choose “Post to a channel when a webhook request is received”.

  2. Step 2: Paste the URL

Copy the URL it gives you and paste it in bynh. It ends in powerplatform.com (or logic.azure.com for older workflows). Messages arrive as cards.

Google Chat

In the space, open Apps & integrations, add a webhook and give it a name. Paste the URL in bynh; it starts with https://chat.googleapis.com/v1/spaces/.

Discord

Open the channel’s settings, then Integrations › Webhooks, and create a webhook. Paste its URL in bynh; it starts with https://discord.com/api/webhooks/.

Telegram

  1. Step 1: Create a bot

Message @BotFather, create a bot and copy its token. It looks like 123456789:AAE….

  2. Step 2: Add it to your group

Add the bot to the group or channel that should get alerts.

  3. Step 3: Enter the chat

Paste the token and the chat ID in bynh. A group’s ID starts with -100; a public channel can use its @name. For a group with topics, add the topic ID: the number at the end of the topic’s link.
